*Blame Akufo-Addo, NPP for Ghana’s poor performance in peace ranking – NDC youth activis*
The New Patriotic Party and former President Nana Akufo-Addo are criticised for Ghana’s declining performance on the Global Peace Index.
The Global Peace Index, which assesses peace levels across 163 countries, has ranked Ghana lower in its 2025 report, sparking concerns about the country’s stability and security.
Meanwhile, Thomas Dindiego, Western Regional NDC youth activist, argues that the NPP administration’s poor policies and blatant lawlessness have transcended to this decline.
He points to issues such as rising crime rates, increased militarization before the December elections, unemployment, and economic hardship sparked unrest among the youth.
Mr. Dindiego also expressed concerns about the NPP government’s handling of protests and demonstrations in the last quarter of 2024, which have sometimes turned violent.
The NDC youth activist contends that Akufo-Addo and Bawumia’s leadership style and priorities, focusing on corruption and human rights abuse, have come at the expense of social cohesion and peace.
He has accused the previous NPP administration of exacerbating the Bawku conflict by allegedly installing a rival chief during Nana Akufo-Addo’s tenure, a move that triggered fresh tensions in the area.
Thomas Dindiego emphasized that President John Dramani Mahama handed over a peaceful country in 2017, ranked 43rd on the Global Peace Index, to former President Nana Akufo-Addo.
However, he bemoaned that the NPP has tarnished the country’s reputation due to several unprovoked attacks, his government officials unleashed on some citizens, and several recorded cases of smuggled weapons into the country through some part of the Northern borders.
He stressed that strategic innovation is crucial for achieving economic recovery. However, he noted that insecurity and lawlessness can escalate rapidly, while achieving peaceful environments often requires a gradual process, including mediation.
In this vein, Mr. Thomas Dindiego attributed Ghana’s decline in peace ranking to President Akufo-Addo, absolving former President John Dramani Mahama of responsibility.
The Western Regional NDC youth activist and former Amenfi East constituency communication officer has emphasized President Mahama’s commitment to restoring Ghana’s peace and stability.
According to him, the reset agenda is geared towards making Ghana a safer place not only for business and investment but also for all citizens.
